Bulgaria, My Collection

My friends really spoil me. A friend of mine parent's went on a trip to Bulgaria last week, and surprised me with these two cards. The first one is from a beach in the Black Sea, and the other is from Sofia, but I don't know the church's name.

The Cathedral's name is "St Alexander Nevskii". It is the biggest cathedral here. It was built after a decision taken by the first Bulgarian Parliament in 1878. Arch. Pomerantsev, from St. Petersburg developed the project and the church was finished in 10 yearsq between 1904 and 1914. The icons inside are among the most valuable treasures of the Cathedral - they've been painted by Vasnetsov, Savinski, Mesoiadov, I. Markvichka, A. Mitov...

On the right (top-down): National Theatre "Ivan Vazov", National Library "St. St. Cyril and Methodii", Bulgarian National Academy of Science and the National Palace of Culture. On the left - the Sofia town emblem and the St. Sofia Statue.

Hello Sonia,

The Cathedral's name is "St Alexander Nevskii". It is the biggest cathedral here. It was built after a decision of the first Bulgarian Parliament in 1878. Architect prof. Pomerantsev, St. Petersburg developed the project and the church was finished in 10 years, between 1904 and 1914. There are 12 bells inside, made in Moskow. The biggest one is 3m wide and weight 11758 kg. (WOW! possible to hear it 30 km around!) The icons inside are among the most valuable treasures of the Cathedral - they've been painted by Vasnetsov, Savinski, Mesoiadov, I. Markvichka, A. Mitov...

On the right (top-down): National Theatre "Ivan Vazov", National Library "St. St. Cyril and Methodii", Bulgarian National Academy of Science and the National Palace of Culture. Almost everything 'National is at Sofia and on your postcard ;)On the left - the Sofia town emblem and the St. Sofia Statue.
